Christmas, New Years and other Holidays

Well This year I got an early Christmas this year when the kids went to Columbus for the week before Christmas. I know it sounds bad to be happy your kids are gone but hey I am a single mom who rarely gets time off so even though I did have to work I didn't have to make dinner or put anyone but me to bed and there was a definate lack of Whining for 9 whole days. It was great but it was good when they came back too.

Christmas was nice this year, with the kids getting older it is getting harder or at least more expensive to find things for them but Taryn has shown an interest in Volleyball lately so starting next week she will be starting a skills class at Adventure Plex and while she it hitting the ball Zack got the Gift of Climbing in there play structure ( Think Mc Donalds playland on steroids ) They also recieved lots of Games for Christmas so Family time has gotten a little more competative with Scene it Pirates 3 and Are you Smarter than a 5th Grader DVD. I have to admit some of those questions are hard but I can still beat it. I took the week of Christmas off work and the kids and I had fun just playing at home and spending there Christmas $$$. Taryn bought herself a new bed and is settling in to her room slowly ie.. she still hasn't put everything away yet. And Zack has used his money for toys, toys, and more toys and he still has money to burn. Oh well he is happy.

New Years was a quiet day for us we ended up staying home and watching movies. Zack almost made it till the new year but fell about a 1/2 an hour short. I woke him up at 2 minutes til and we watched the ball drop before I carried him to bed. Man he is heavy next year he will have to walk himself.

This week I am trying to get back in the swing of work but my heart just isn't in it, to borrow a quote from Zack "it is taking like 50 billion years for this week to end." The kids are at Winter Camp at the rec center and in the last two days they have gone to see the Rose Parade Floats and Roller skating. Today is supposed to be a quiet day at the Nakaoka Center watching movies and playing games. Next week is back to school it will be tough after three weeks off for them but I think they are looking forward to getting back to normal, or at least as normal as our lives ever get around here.

Hope your holidays have been good to you and we wish you a wonderful New Year. To everyone we haven't seen in a while we miss you.

Scouts, School and Stuff

I know, I know, I know, It has been a long time since I last updated my blog here and I am sorry about that but it has been busy. Lets see first there was all the school and scout craming that we do every year to fill a months worth of stuff into the first two and a half weeks of December so that we can all take some time to be with our families a the holidays. This year we had added Boy scouts for and droped a few days out of the time schedule since the kids were off to Columbus of a visit the same day they finished up school.
Scouts schools and more. Well Zack is just loving scouts in November and December we did a project to make wish ornaments for some foster kids in the area. The boys decorated foam sheet ornaments that the foster kids would then attach a sticker with there name and what they would like for christmas, then the ornaments where hung on christmas trees in a local mall where people could pick them off buy the present attach the sticker and take the ornament home. We also sponcered 5 families in our pack, one for each den to buy presents for. We talked to the boys about what this family,(mom,6- boy,4-girl,& 1- boy)needed we talked about how they didn't have a home of there own and were living with family members, how they needed food and clothes and how without the help of others these three kids might not get and toys, The boys were really excited to help and Zack would have bought out Target if we could have just for them. But we did end up buying each kid a few toys and mom an gift certificate to a grocery store, we also collect gently used items for them also. Zack is still doing great in school except for the sitting still part. he participated in a holiday program and it was adorable to see all of them singing and dancing to the music.
Taryn has now achieved the highest rank in junior girl scouts as the girls finially completed the requirements for there Bronze award badge, they have some more fundraising to do then it will be off to San Francisco to take place in a hugh Bridging ceremony to celebrate there moving up to cadets. School has finally gotten challenging for her since she moved into the gifted program but that doesn't mean her grades are dropping she still keeps a high GPA and we are so proud of her.
All in all we have learned a lot about helping others this holiday season and will continue to do more projects as the kids love it.
